Overlooking Genoa Lakes Golf Course, Excelsior Stone removed and disposed of the builder-grade granite, then fabricated and installed new countertops and backsplash. The island features honed White Rhino dolomite, a waterfall end, a 2½-inch mitered edge and a farmhouse sink. The perimeter countertops are 3cm Fountain Blue quartzite with a leathered finish and square eased edges, with a full-height backsplash up to the upper cabinets.

Excelsior Stone replaced dated tile countertops with satin-finish Ijen Blue quartzite countertops, a 1½-inch mitered edge and a full-height backsplash. The work included careful demolition and disposal of the broken tile and stained grout while protecting the homeowner's cabinets and floors, followed by fabrication and installation.

A mitered edge joins a strip of stone to the front of the countertop at an angle so the edge looks thicker, like the 1½-inch and 2-inch edges in these projects. It is an edge build-up, so the whole slab is not necessarily that thick.
Polished stone is glossy, honed stone has a low-sheen matte finish and leathered stone has a textured feel. A honed finish does not make a stone acid-proof, and leathered surfaces have different cleaning needs from polished ones, so look at a finished sample before you choose.
Yes. Several of these projects started with removing and disposing of old tile, concrete, Formica or builder-grade granite countertops. Before demo, clear everything off the countertops and empty or remove the top drawers.
